The Word of Diamonds – away on Business with Stephan Rivoir

„We have created our own classification for a high quality diamond excellence“

Diamonds are not only the hardest natural mineral known to man, but they also contain a unique inner fire and that is what makes it such a fabulous and unique jewel. Releasing that fire is the skill of the diamond polisher. The technique for cutting and polishing a diamond was discovered almost 600 years ago but the science behind the craft was only fully understood in the latter half of the 20th century.

Stephan Rivoir knows his diamonds. “We purchase our diamonds only from legitimate sources and the stones are polished by diamond cutters who respect our very high ethical standards and work practices” said Stephan.

He does not do business with dealers from countries who have no respect for human life, who reject their democratically elected governments or have used profits from the mining of diamonds to fuel civil disturbance and war.

Verifying the sources – checking our partners and their social responsibility policies towards their staff and their clients – building business relationships and checking every stone, is a daily task for Stephan. This day to day activity has given him an unusual depth of understanding and knowledge of the diamond industry and this extraordinary and unique gemstone.

Helping Stephan in this task is Amir Weizman, diamond buyer and business partner, based in Tel Aviv. Israel is one of the most important commercial centres for diamonds and Tel Aviv is one of the most famous diamond centres in the world.

"We present to our customers only the diamonds that we believe are perfect – these are the most beautiful diamonds in the world."

Amir’s knowledge of the diamond industry worldwide has enabled him to purchase the finest rough goods and the services of the very best cutters and follow the guidelines laid out under the Kimberley Process. This wealth of knowledge and expertise in diamonds that Stephan Rivoir and his father Hans have gained over several decades, is very unusual in Germany.

“It is the direct contact with diamond manufacturers and cutters that distinguishes us from other companies” says Stephan. “If we had not taken the trouble to learn about diamond manufacturing, we could not have understood the science and the skill that it takes to identify and polish a rough diamond to perfection. And that is how we have been able to develop our Excellence Collection. These diamonds are the ultimate, the most beautiful stones in the world.”
