Johann Faust considered the true meaning of the Greek word “logos”. If it is translated into German, does the word have any meaning other than the notion or does it have a deeper sense or a more important purpose? Does the word have power? Finally, Faust translated “In the beginning there was action!”
The relationship between Faust’s search for “what keeps the world together at heart” and for the ideal piece of jewellery is strong and very appropriate. The designers at Rivoir take time to look at the way in which a piece of jewellery is worn – the shape, the form, the colours, the height. They consider that powerful relationship between the jewel and the wearer – the nature of the gift and the sentiment with which it is endowed.
And so at Rivoir – just as for Faust – “in the beginning there is action”. It starts as a notional idea, a scribble or a sketch. It is developed, worked upon, defined until the final draft is placed on paper. Superb jewellery appeals to several senses. First, the simple form seen by the naked eye and the pleasure that is created by the shape and style. It has to please but it must do much more. The second sense is one of emotion. This powerful sensation applies to both the wearer and their audience. “The beauty of this piece of jewellery will unfold over several generations”.
„Our designs respect the
value of the precious diamond
that is the hero of each
piece, set in the finest of our
noble metals – gold and
platinum.”
- Stephan Rivoir -
Our jewellery reflects the Bauhaus philosophy and art. For our collections to have lasting value – to be eternal – the artwork must have integrity, must be sublime. The designer who neglects this fact runs the risk of plagiarism. Rare and valuable metals and gemstones deserve better treatment than that!
We invite you to check all the pieces in our collections and see how we at Rivoir show our respect for the riches of our planet. Designs by Rivoir take the most precious of nature’s bounty and create symbiotically a precious jewel, an art form, wearable now and forever.
